The functions of PPCK as encapsulated in the AFA Act 2013 (Revised 2016) are to:
- Be the principal advisor to the Government on issues relating to pyrethrum industry;
- Register and contract pyrethrum growers of growers;
- Provide quality pyrethrum planting materials; seeds, seedlings and clonal materials to growers;
- Provide extension services to growers in collaboration with County Governments;
- Undertake research into all matters connected with the agronomic practices, breeding for genetic improvement, development of industrial processes and end use products;
- Purchase, collect and transport dry flowers to the factory for processing and pay growers for flower deliveries; Pay growers for flower deliveries;
- Process pyrethrum flowers into pyrethrum products, sell and market pyrethrum products for various customers, both locally and overseas;
- Contract private producers of seed, clonal material and seedlings at negotiated related fees;
- Initiate and maintain product registrations with relevant governments where pyrethrum products are marketed;
- Generate appropriate data and technical information on product formulation;
- Administer plant breeders’ rights and maintain the twenty three (23) pyrethrum varieties and in consultation with other relevant agencies, develop and implement standards for seed and plant materials;
- In consultation with other relevant agencies, regulate the commercial exploitation of naturally occurring plants and plant-related micro- organisms;
- Appoint contractors for seed and seedling production and negotiate related fees;
- Initiate and maintain product registrations with relevant governments where pyrethrum products are marketed.
